Best Breweries Near Heavenly
South Lake Tahoe and Heavenly Ski Resort have always been known for their abundance of activities whether it be playing in the mountains or the lake. No matter what your into is there’s nothing like finishing up and heading out to a brewery for some local craft beer and food. Over the past few years South Lake Tahoe has seen an emergence of breweries that have begun to put the region on the map for its craft brew selection and unless you’re really dedicated, it’s not easy to hit everyone. Here’s a few of our favorites when we visit our friends at Heavenly Ski Resort.
Sidellis Brewery
This locals favorite is known for specializing in small batch brews that always seem to run out too fast. Having opened in 2015, Sidellis has started to pop up in bars all across South Lake Tahoe but visiting the original location is still worth it. Their wooden picnic tables set up inside are great for squeezing a few friends onto to enjoy some of their delicious sandwiches and cold beers.
Recommendations: Brewocracy IPA and whatever their small batch brew is at the time but you’ll have to call ahead and find out.
Location: 3350 Sandy Way, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
Cold Water Brewery and Grill
Located right in the center of South Lake Tahoe, Cold Water Brewery is conveniently placed near everything the region has to offer. The rustic vibe and vast food menu with classic comfort food like fish tacos and St.Louis style ribs, is enough to get you in the door, but the beer is what’ll make you stay. Plus they have a second location called The Runoff that’s right on your way to the beach and serves to-go breakfast and lunch sandwiches and Cold Water Brewery cans to go.
Recommendation: Mr. Toad’s Wild Rye
Location: 2544 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
South Lake Brewing Co.
This taproom opened in 2017 and has been a local and tourist favorite ever since. Although it’s just a taproom, it’s exactly how a taproom should be. A mix of stainless steel countertops and dark wooden benches fill the taproom with 20 tabs of rotating beer. Their outdoor patio is also dog-friendly and is home to cornhole events and live music throughout the year. They also offer a variety of beers-to-go in 16oz four packs and the option of actually shipping beer to other states so if you have a friend who lives in one of the 14 states that all beer shipment, maybe send him a few not so cold ones.
Recommendation: Shell Shaka Bright West Coast IPA and Fog Nozzle Hazy IPA
Location: 1920 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
South of North Brewing Co.
South of North Brewing Co., formerly known as Outpost Brewing Co., which was formerly known as the Basecamp Beer Garden is attached to Base Camp Hotel, a popular lodging destination year round. Check out the inside or make your way to the beer garden which is what the brewery is known for. Relax and enjoy one of their craft beers while listening to some live music coming from the Airstream Music Stage, a stage that was made in front of an old airstream trailer where live music plays nightly.
Recommendation: Horchata Stout
Location: 932 Stateline Ave B, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
The Brewery at Lake Tahoe
Having opened in 1992 and South Lake Tahoe’s first licensed bar, along with being California’s third licensed bar, The Brewery at Lake Tahoe is it’s own little piece of history. It was owned by the same man for 27 years until being sold to some locals in 2020. They’ve been continuing the legacy with an excellent lunch and dinner menu of pizza, calzones and hotdogs along with nine taps at the bar. It’s definitely got an older vibe to it but once you go you’ll see why this brewery has stuck around so long.
Recommendation: The Brewery At Lake Tahoe Ale
Location: 3542 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
