Copious Amounts of Snow Blanket Lake Tahoe
To say that people in Lake Tahoe are happy with the early precipitation would be a serious understatement. The past weather system has unleashed feet upon feet of fresh snow on the area. Heavy low pressure zones stalled over the Lake Tahoe Basin for multiple days, which allowed for an exorbitant amount of snow to blanket the Sierra. According to almanacs and our old-timers, Lake Tahoe has received more snow this November than we have seen in thirty years! Kirkwood, Heavenly, Sierra, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, and Squaw Valley were seeing minimum snow totals of 99+ inches of snow at their summits. Kirkwood, itself was reporting over 130 inches of snow to have fallen!
This week in Tahoe, periods of snowfall will continue dropping 3 to 6 inches intermittently. Skiers and riders, alike, are basking in the glory of fresh powder turns and face shots in November, on their first runs of the year! We have not been blessed with a start to the season like this in decades and there is no lack of folks to enjoy the freshies. Forecast models are very positive for the coming weeks and locals and tourists are crossing their fingers that these conditions will last the entirety of this season. Grab some wax and hit the mountains, we have a green light in the Sierra.
