How to Prepare for Your Holiday Ski Vacation

With the season right around the corner it’s time to start making plans for that holiday ski trip you’ve been daydreaming about all summer. While the holidays are always a great time to get away and head to the mountains, it’s also the most popular so preparing ahead is crucial to make sure you get the best deals you can.

Here’s a few tips to help you make sure you are prepared when you fly out to the mountains this holiday season.

Buy tickets ahead of time

With places like Park City announcing that they will be selling limited tickets during certain busy dates this season. Making sure you get those lift tickets ahead of time will make sure you don’t run into any issues with not being able to ski on the days you want.

Book that flight

As many people know, flights go up the closer the date is to when you book it. Making sure to book your flight as early as possible will allow you to save money and a headache when it comes to your winter vacation.

Websites like Skyscanner are a great way to compare different airlines to make sure you are finding the cheapest flight possible.

Make dinner reservations ahead of time

It’s always a bummer when you find the perfect restaurant just to realize they are all booked up for the night. This happens even more frequently over the holiday season but luckily a lot of restaurants prepare for these days, weeks and even months in advance. Getting that reservation on the books as soon as possible will ensure that you’ll be eating good that night and not ordering a pizza in.

Drink water

Elevation sickness is a very real thing and can bust your ski vacation before it even begins. Making sure to drink plenty of water before you even begin traveling and through the duration of your travels will help you combat the effects of elevation sickness and make sure you’re able to do everything you want during your vacation.

For those not used to gaining so much elevation it can take a toll on your breathing as the air is a lot thinner compared to more sea leveled areas. Picking up some canned oxygen can make a world of difference when you start breathing hard at the top of the mountain.

Bring proper layers

The holiday seasons can get cold up here in the mountains and there’s nothing worse than having to end a ski day early because you didn’t layer properly.

Make sure you are bringing the proper layers so you’ll stay as warm as you can out on the mountain. Companies like Smartwool make incredibly light layers that keep you warm without making you sweat which is crucial for staying warm.

Remember if you’re sweating then it might be time to take a break or take a layer off.
