South Lake Tahoe Local Guide, Part Two
Resort Highlights: Heavenly Ski Resort is the 5th largest ski area in North America and has the longest vertical drop in California at 3,500 ft. It’s claim to fame is that the resort is spread across both California & Nevada making for a unique skiing experience every day. Heavenly offers a great mix of terrain for all levels of ability, especially for those strong intermediates where the resort can be a mecca for advanced tree skiing. Due to this it can get overcrowded at times and there are long lift lines to access the best terrain. The groomed snow quality is second to none across Tahoe and when linking turns on those groomers one is overcome with awe when looking at the vast Lake Tahoe and desert.
Off-Hill Activities: There isn’t a shortage of things to do in the South Lake Tahoe. Many go tubing or sledding as a way to feel free from the crowds and to enjoy the simple things with family and friends. Adventure Mountain is a hotspot with up to fifteen machine groomed sledding runs plus it’s family owned and operated so it’s a guarantee for affordable family fun.
Restaurants & Apres: Izabella Ristorante Italiano is an easy walk from the resort. This is your classic mom and pop Italian joint. Loosen up the belt & the wallet to enjoy the richness and luxury that is Italian cuisine. Lake Tahoe AleworX has been a very busy spot since it opened. The taproom offers a rotating selection of about 25 craft beers, plus wine and kombucha. South Lake Tahoe Brewing Company is very popular amongst visitors and locals. It offers a seasonal beer menu, live music, food trucks, trivia nights and a picnic on Sundays. Mont Bleu would be a good spot for night life as well with two big time nightclubs right on the property.
