Things To Do In Jackson Hole, Besides Ski
Jackson, Wyoming has quickly become one of the biggest skiing destinations in the world because of its accessibility to Jackson Hole Ski Resort. Arguably one of the best resorts in the United States. From steep difficult runs off the tram to casual beginner trails, this mountain has got a little something for everyone.
Even with all this amazing terrain there’s still a point when the lifts have to close down for the day and you’re stuck thinking of what to do once the ski boots come off. Luckily for you, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite things to do while we are visiting our friends up in Jackson, besides skiing.
Million Dollar Cowboy Bar
Ever wanted to grab a drink while sitting on top of a horse saddle? Then the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is for you. Established in 1937 and located right in the town square of Jackson. Cowboy Bar has been a staple of the town, hosting countless celebrities, presidents, and people of all walks of life. You really can’t find a bar that has more of a Western vibe to it, and with live music 7 days a week it’s a great place to dust off those square dancing shoes.
Scenic Gondola Rides
Located only a short walk from the town square. Snow King Mountain is more than just the steepest mountain from base to peak in the United States. It also hosts scenic gondola rides on their newly constructed gondola. For only $30 per person, you can take the gondola up, getting incredible views of the Tetons, the Elk Refuge, and the town of Jackson. Once you get to the top you can stay warm in their Panorama House which has a 360 degree room for you to really take in all the views.
King Tubes/Cowboy Coaster
Once you’ve taken all you can handle from atop Snow King. Head back down to try out Snow King’s tubing hill. With three groomed lanes and a magic carpet that brings you back up to the top, this tubing experience is perfect for people of all ages who want to give their legs a break but still get their need for speed.
Tickets start at $25 an hour for all ages and $40 for two hours. For $50 you can get a 1 hour coaster/tube combo pass that will allow you to not just tube, but also let you ride on Snow King’s famous Cowboy Coaster. A single, or double, roller coaster that brings you halfway up the mountain before dropping you into sharp turns and stomach sinking drops.
Grand Teton National Park
One of the most spectacular national parks in the United States, Grand Teton National Park is even more beautiful in the winter. Go check out the Teton range in all it’s glory while being covered in snow and take a stroll on one of their hundreds of miles of hiking trails. National parks are always seen as more of a summer activity but trust us when we say there’s nothing like experiencing this park in the winter.
Jackson Hole Center for the Arts
If you’re looking to slow down a bit from your fast paced ski vacation, then heading over to Jackson Hole’s Center for the Arts is a must for all those who love art. This massive faculty, just a few minutes from the center of town, hosts dozens of local artists who have gained inspiration from the surrounding natural wonders of Jackson. Come see what local art they currently have on display or check their calendar to find a series of events from film festivals, to local musicians.
Breweries
No ski town is complete without a few local breweries, and Jackson has got some good ones. Right in town square we have Roadhouse Pub and Eatery. Not only does this place have some of the best food in all of Jackson but it’s also got some of the best beer. Our personal favorites are the Wilson, mountain-style IPA, and The Walrus, a hazy IPA with peaches and tangerines, that East Coast IPA lovers will love.
Next we have Melvin Brewing. This restaurant/taste room is unique for any brewery as it is also a Thai restaurant called Thai Me Up. Never did we think that beer and Thai food would be the perfect pair but Thai Me Up has changed all of our minds. If you’re looking for some amazing Thai food, along with some fantastic Melvin beer then this place is a must.
Lastly we have StillWest Brewery and Grill. Located right near the base of Snow King. This brewery is a great place to either hangout after a long day of skiing the slopes, or just to chill out on their patio as you take in the mountains around you.
