5 Things to do in Big Sky this Winter Besides Ski

1. Visit Yellowstone
The most popular park in the United States is even more gorgeous when the snow begins to fall. West Yellowstone entrance is only about an hour from Big Sky and the best part is that it’s usually way less crowded in the winter. Being able to enjoy all the best parts of Yellowstone without the crowds makes it must to check out when you take some time off from skiing.
2. Adventure Zipline
Cruise down one of the best zipline courses in America. Located right on Big Sky Resort, take the Explorer Double Chair up the mountain and take in the views of Lone Mountain and the Spanish Peaks. Once you’re at the top, pick between four ziplines spanning from 1500 feet long and 150 ft high. They even have a twin zipline that lets you race your way down against another adrenaline junkie.
3. Hike to Ousel Falls
The Ousel Falls trailhead is located right outside of the Big Sky Town Center and is a great, quick hike to do by yourself or with the family to view some frozen waterfalls. The snow can get pretty slick at some points so bringing spikes for your shoes is highly recommended for this 1.6 round trip hike. With only 400 ft of elevation gain this is a great non strenuous hike to do after a day of skiing or on a day off if you still want to work out those legs.
4. Explore Big Sky’s Community Trails
Big Sky’s vast trail system is perfect for those who are looking to try out some cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Purchase a trail map at one of the visitor centers or retail shops in town then head out and explore the outer regions of Big Sky. Big Sky Resort also offers guided snowshoeing tours that leave from the Mountain Village at 9:45 AM and 1:00 PM.
5. Dog Sledding
For those who are trying to relax their legs a bit on a day off from skiing but are still looking for a thrill, there’s no better way to experience the beauty of Big Sky and the surrounding area than dog sledding. Learn how to drive your very own dog sled as you sled across these beautiful landscapes in this once in a lifetime opportunity.
