Snow on the Peaks, Music in the Trees

As the golden, fiery aspen leaves begin to fall from their silvery branches, the massive, jagged peaks turn white, and we slyly allow ourselves to start dreaming of Milk Runs, change is coming to Telluride in more ways than one.

Ready for winter. Palmyra Peak, Telluride Ski Resort. October 6, 2015.

After hosting the fur-emblazoned guitars of ZZ Top, the unmistakably magnificent voice of Taj Mahal and one of the greatest rock artists of all-time in Gregg Allman at the spectacular 22nd annual Blues and Brews Festival, the Telluride Town Park Stage is saying goodbye to nearly 40 years of bluebird days (a few muddy extravaganzas), starry skies and priceless performances. Beginning this fall, the stage that has stood as icon of the Town Park since the early 1970s will be demolished to make way for a multi-million dollar upgraded structure that will allow for Telluride’s unmatched summer music series to continue to grow and flourish.

Designers and backers hope the bigger, more technologically advanced facility will allow for bigger acts to continue to grace the stage, claiming the current setup could be frustrating and amateurish for industry regulars. They stress however, that while growing is size and stature, the stage will always retain its rustic aesthetic and fit elegantly into one of the most beautiful town parks in the world.

One thing’s for sure, regardless of what it becomes, after another unparalleled summer of musical talent and grace, the town park stage’s future can only get better!
