Things to do in Sun Valley, Besides Ski
Sun Valley is by far the most popular resort in Idaho, and for good reason. Between the Sun Valley village and the town of Ketchum, this place can be seen as a skiers paradise. While you might end up here to hit the slopes of Baldy, you might need to throw in a rest day somewhere in your vacation. As easy as it is to plan the skiing, it can be a little bit harder to figure out what you want to do when you’re not. Here’s a list of some of our favorite things to do in Sun Valley when we aren’t out skiing.
Gondola Rides
If you’re trying to take a break from skiing but not from the views then heading up the gondola on Bald Mountain to get a bite to eat at the Roundhouse restaurant is the thing for you. Located right at the base of River Run, you can still enjoy the views while relaxing on the mountain.
Grab Some Drinks
Like any good ski town, Ketchum has a few local places where you can grab a cold drink and some good food. Warfield’s Distillery and Brewery is a fan favorite and is a good double header with it’s large selection of beers and spirits. You can follow Warfield’s up by checking out Sawtooth Brewery Public House or if wine is more to your liking you can head to Sun Valley Wine Company which has dozens of different wines to choose from.
Paragliding
If the gondola’s views aren’t enough for you then how about a birds eye view of Sun Valley and the town of Ketchum? At Fly Sun Valley you can get the best view possible by flying off Baldy while being safely strapped to your instructor. There truly is no better way to see the area than from a birds eye view.
Bowling
Bowling is great because it’s one of those sports that anyone can get into. At the Sun Valley Lodge put your bowling skills to the test at their newly renovated bowling alley or check out their game room and full bar.
Ice Skating
While you’re at the Sun Valley Lodge head on over to their year-round outdoor ice rink. They offer rentals right at the rink with live music playing almost daily and a full bar only a short walk away. There’s also the Christina Potters Ice Rink in Atkinson Park right in Ketchum that has a ton of community donated gear like skates and hockey pads that are free to use.
Catch a Hockey Game
Sun Valley’s minor league hockey team The Sun Valley Suns is always a thrill to watch. They play against other ski town hockey teams across the country at the Campion Ice House in Hailey. With their season starting in December and ending in March it doesn’t matter when you make it out to Sun Valley this winter, there will definitely be a game going on.
Dinner and a Ride
Once you’ve finished up your day of activities head on over to the Sun Valley Inn for a sleigh ride that drops you off at the Trail Creek Cabin for dinner. The ride usually lasts around 30 minutes and you are provided cozy wool blankets and warm drinks for the duration of the ride.
