What?s the newly opened Peak 6 at Breckenridge all about?

As the end of September approaches, an overnight snow shower dumps some of the year’s first snow around the high peaks of Colorado, including the newly opened Peak 6 on Breckenridge. The excitement is palpable around the town of Breckenridge as everyone is chatting about the upcoming ski season, and what new terrain they plan to ski this season. Last year on Christmas Day, Breckenridge started spinning the lifts up to the top of newly opened Peak 6, marking the biggest ski resort expansion in North America in more than a decade.

My first experience with Peak 6 was at the very end of the ski season last year, during a bluebird day on an April Sunday. After taking the brand new 6‑person high-speed chair with some close friends we decided to hike to the top of some of the hike-to terrain to get the full Peak 6 experience. The terrain that we arrived at was like nothing else I had ever skied in bounds at a ski resort. Every line I could see was steep, deep, and challenging, and after sailing down through the powder fields with that sense of awe that only skiing new terrain can provide, my friends and I vowed to return in the future. The next few runs were spent lapping the Peak 6 lift access terrain that is intermediate, above treeline bowl skiing, a rare find in North America.

The Facts:

· Peak 6 is located just North of existing Peak 7 terrain.
· Features a total of 543 additional acres: 400 acres of lift-served terrain and 143 acres of hike-to terrain. This is a 23% increase in the resorts skiable terrain.
· Three new bowls, 2 of which are intermediate-rated terrain. In addition to the bowls, there are 10 new trails.
· Lifts: one four-person fixed grip providing access from Peak 7, and one six-person high-speed providing above treeline access.

Breckenridge’s Peak 6 terrain has been met with great reviews from skiers of all ability levels and ages. Breckenridge has committed to building no lodges or restaurants on Peak 6, creating as pristine as experience with nature as possible. Come to Breckenridge and Awaken your Sixth Sense!
