Where to Eat, Drink, and Be Merry in Truckee
Truckee is full of charming and delicious restaurant options. To help first time Truckee-goers we have put together a breakdown of the best spots in town! Hopefully these tips will help jumpstart your culinary adventure.
Entertainment: Moody’s Bistro, Bar, and Beats
Located in the Historic Hotel building (they run the Hotel too), Moody’s offers up an amazing array of craft cocktails, fine American food with a rotating menu, and some of the best entertainment in town. Bands will be playing into the night all weekend long and this crowded bar is a great place to cut a rug on the dance floor and enjoy the ambiance. The food is phenomenal as well and be sure to get a cocktail from the bar — this writer prefers an Old Fashioned but don’t overlook the specials board.
What to Get: Niman Ranch Burger — A staple on the menu, you can’t go wrong with this pick.
For the Game: The Blue Coyote
This is a classic local’s watering hole. One might half expect the cast of Cheers to come walking in. The Blue Coyote has TV’s on every wall and in every corner of the restaurant and is THE place to catch your favorite team on gameday. The food is standard american fare, and not going to WOW you, but the friendly atmosphere and local charm makes this place a must visit when you’re in town and looking for a sports bar.
What to Get: Truckee Style Wings — These are the best wings in town, and this writer would toss these wings in the ring with the best of them. They are seriously delicious.
For Happy Hour: Bar of America
Located in the old Bank of America building, this bar features some ENORMOUS televisions at either end of the bar and the best food happy hour in town. Get a Racer 5 IPA and stare out the big windows at the massive piles of snow and you hang your tired legs from a barstool. With a playful cocktail menu and solid cheap eats, this is a decent spot to get your evening started.
What to Get: Jalapeño Shooters
For a Beer: 5050 Brewing Company
Fifty Fifty has become a force in the craft brewing world. They said the scene on its feet with their Eclipse series of specialty beers and people come from all corners of the globe to stand in line to get a bottle of their own. Luckily for the casual enthusiast, you can walk up to the bar and get a taste of their delicious beer offerings. They have so many good beers to choose from and TV’s that are sure to keep you entertained while you imbibe. A revamped menu and located close to Northstar, 5050 Brewing is a must stop for any visitor.
What to Get: the CAPA — A great pale ale that is just right
