Whistler: The Place to be this Winter
Known for its amazing views and intimidating descents, Whistler-Blackcomb is a bucket list location for any skier wanting to see the best of what Canada has to offer. With over 4,757 acres of ski-able terrain and Blackcomb adding another 3,414 acres. There is so much terrain to explore that it can get overwhelming at times. But when you’re finally ready to pop those ski boots off or you’re just taking a day off to rest the legs, what do you do? Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Whistler off the mountain when we go visit our friends up North.
Whistler Museum
Learn a little bit about what mountain life in Whistler used to be like back in the 1950’s and how it has grown and changed since then by taking a visit to the Whistler Museum. Built in 1986, this museum was created to preserve and educate people about the mountain lifestyle’s of some of its earliest settlers. See how this valley has changed from a small fishing village to the massive four season resort we know now.
Ax Throwing
Forged Ax Throwing claims that they’ll give you, “the most Canadian experience you’ll have in Whistler!” And we think they might be right! Over the past few years ax throwing has gained massive popularity and what better place to try then this state of the art ax throwing facility!! With children 10 and up being able to participate after a safety orientation, this can be fun for the whole family!
Scandinave Spa
You ever wake up one day from a ski trip just to realize how sore you’ve gotten from all that shredding, or maybe you just need to get away from it all. Either way the Scandinave Spa is the best way to relax your senses. With the spa having the unique feature of being a silent and digitally free facility, it allows a feeling of escapism that can be hard to find.
Breweries
No ski town is complete without an assortment of breweries for people to check out! There’s nothing like getting done with a hard day of skiing and having that first sip of a crisp draft beer. Whistler has several fantastic breweries including High Mountain Brewing Company Brew House. Located right in the center Whistler Village, it’s the perfect walkable location, either from the ski lodge or your accommodations. If you want to spread your search a bit further, Whistler Brewing Co. is just a short 10 minute drive from Whistler Village. With rotating live music, comedy shows, and trivia nights happening every week, there’s always something happening! Make sure to stop by Whistler’s newest brewery, located near Whistler Brewing Co.,called Coast Mountain Brewing.
Winter Zip-Lining
No longer just a summer activity, zip line can now be done season round in Whistler! Fly through the sky using one of Whistler’s two zip-lining services Ziptrek and Superfly Ziplines. Both companies have zip-lining tours that can last anywhere from an hour and a half to three hours and can be fun for the whole family or just for yourself!
Tubing
Whether you’re with the family or some friends, everyone enjoys a good old tubing session! Head on over to Coca-Cola Tube Park to tube down their 1,000 ft vertical track with a special conveyor lift that effortlessly brings you back to the top! Bring some friends or bring the family and enjoy tubing all day long and into the night with hills being open till 6 PM daily.
Bobsledding
No trip to Whistler is complete without checking out the Whistler Sliding Center! This bobsled, luge, and skeleton facility is home to Olympians testing and toning their skills for the next Winter Olympics. Sign up for one of their programs or test your luck with their public skeleton sessions where you can clock speeds of up to 100 km/hr!
